History of Gulets

It remains vague how gulets got their name - from the Italian word "guletta" or the French "goullette," meaning "schooner". This schooner type of vessel used to be used as a sweeping net, trawl net or sponging vessel in Turkey in the Aegean and Mediterranean shores. It apparently resembles the American Gullet used in ling fishing in the Greenland banks as well as the clippers carrying goods from India to England in the periods of colonization.

Gulets we know today are known as the Bodrum type of schooners and date back to the 1970s when they were created as a result of the inflow of tourists - they had chambers and seating on the back of the deck, as opposed to gulets used in fishing or sponging.

Chooosing a Right Gulet in Marmaris

First of all, you need to have in mind the number of people sailing with you when choosing a right gulet for your yachting vacations. The budget is, of course, the most important item - the bigger the gulet, the higher the price. If you require higher luxury and level of comfort, the price will depend upon those demands. Also, if you want to make your own itinerary, the price will be higher. You can choose between private gulet charter, and cabin charter. In the former, you get the highest comfort, privacy and flexibility on itinerary, provisioning and menu and in the latter, you only charter as many cabins as you need and not the entire boat and you cannot choose on the itinerary, menu nor the destination ports.
